What's the job?
As a Corporate Communications Manager, you will provide strategic communications counsel and manages corporate and member-facing initiatives aligned to Coast Capital's corporate strategy, social purpose and regulatory requirements, including managing the end-to-end delivery of communications-led projects, public and member-facing reports, and a wide range of member communication initiatives focused on helping the organization grow responsibly, make membership meaningful and embed social purpose.
What you'll get to do:
- Provides independent portfolio oversight and acts as the Communications lead on member-facing projects and initiatives, informing leadership and proactively making recommendations for decisions.
- Manages the execution of integrated communication plans, producing content, key messages and tactics that adds value, make membership meaningful, offer trusted advice and embed our social purpose.
- Consults with the internal business partners to determine communication needs to deliver corporate results, Board engagement activities and member-facing initiatives; advising business partners regarding message tone, format, timing, and vehicle to ensure the best and most effective approach for communication.
- Partners across the business and supports employees with standards, guidelines and templates to provide a consistent experience that addresses member pain points and delivers to our Coast commitments. This includes coaching business partners in best practices in communications to facilitate self-service.
- Develops and executes internal communication plans to inform frontline employees about member communications and highlight issues impacting members and priority segments.
- Leads the post-plan analysis for continuous improvement of communications. Identifies and uses metrics to gain insights from data, assess effectiveness, and track and report on communication results to identify key areas of opportunity or challenges.
- Leads the project management and production of the Quarterly Financial Results, Annual Reports and Public Accountability Statement and advances integrated reporting
- Responsible for effectively planning, allocating, managing and balancing member communications budgets to reconcile within the overall Public Affairs and Communications budget.
- Working with the Assistant Corporate Secretary, prepares communications content, including employee and members communications, speaking notes, PPT and event logistics to support the Annual General Meeting and Board of Directors Nomination and Election processes.
- Partners with the Social Purpose Office, EDI team, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council and Marketing team to embed "real impact" in our business through supporting external communications initiatives.
- Tracks and reports on communication activities and results to identify key areas of opportunity or challenges.
- Proactively monitors emerging communication technologies and trends, including in the social purpose and B Corp community. Keeps up-to-date on key industry players and market/competitive landscape and maintains an awareness of external factors that affect the financial services industry (regulatory environment, suppliers, etc.) to provide insightful and competitive recommendations.
Who are we looking for?
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- 7 - 9 years of professional management experience in external and internal communications
- Experience directly supporting and working alongside senior leaders, project management and planning, and production management for various communications materials.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and tools of communications and communications planning
- Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, including speech writing
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills
- Ability to interview/liaise with subject matter experts to translate complex information into relevant and understandable communications for multiple audiences
- Knowledge of financial services, the credit union system is an asset
- Experience with ESG and inclusive, accessible communications is an asset
- Experience in a (federally) regulated industry is an asset.
- Proven experience delivering strategic communication plans for external audiences, including annual reports, public reports and disclosures and impact reporting
- Storytelling, including the ability to source and curate stories that resonate with a variety of audiences to drive business outcomes
- Ability to translate data into insights and communicate effectively to influence stakeholders
