Job Purpose
Credit Solutions are responsible for effectively controlling delinquency and minimizing potential losses to Coast Capital Savings in the Retail and Small Business portfolios. We apply thoughtful and principled judgment to balance risk management with compassionate recovery practices particularly when supporting vulnerable members. By thoroughly assessing their financial situations, we identify solutions that promote stability and long-term solutions.
Accountabilities
- The Associate will play a vital role in minimizing potential losses to Coast Capital Savings (CCS).
- Will be responsible for early stage collecting on chargebacks, overdue loans, mortgages, lines of credit and overdrafts.
- Will maintain professionalism when dealing with members, CCS staff and outside agencies.
- Responsibilities include applying Credit Solutions policies while protecting CCS from risk.
- The team work in a collaborative fast-paced environment, which includes time-sensitive deadlines and requires attention to detail.
- Working knowledge required related to federal debt collection laws
This role is hybrid and currently work Monday-Friday depending on business needs.
Individual Key Contributions
- Industry Awareness
- Maintain regular contact on behalf of the Credit Union with various outside agencies (i.e. collection agencies, law firms, bankruptcy trustees, etc.)
- Must be current on industry trends
- Make recommendations to enhance efficiencies on current policies and procedures.
- Communication skills-training in conflict resolution, negotiation and counselling.
Operations
- Abide by the Personal Information Privacy Act at all times
- Credit Solutions must exercise sound judgment in balancing risk with probability of recovery.
- Review unauthorized overdrafts and suspicious activity to identify fraudulent transactions such as counterfeit cheques, kiting and empty envelope deposits.
- Locate and contact members by telephone, letter and email to discuss and establish repayment options.
- Initiate collection calls on overdrawn accounts in accordance with established collection policies, procedures and time constraints.
- Follow up with outstanding property tax, strata fee delinquency notices and property insurance cancellations.
- Process payments to member accounts
- Review and make corrections to credit bureaus
- Assist with processing incoming and outgoing mail for Credit Solutions
- Act as a resource for CCS staff
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 – 4 Years of Job-Related Experience
- High School Diploma plus some additional post-secondary courses
- Strong knowledge of the banking system
- An asset to have working knowledge of the loan application and collection systems
- MS Office
