What’s the job?

The Data Engineer works on our Enterprise Analytics (EA) team is responsible for the development of the Enterprise Analytics Data Warehouse and reporting environment, taking business requirements and working with the data architect, platform engineering, DBA, and data governance teams to deliver the analytical layer of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to support reporting and data self-service needs. The Data Engineer is responsible for creating all processes required to extract data from source systems, transform it according to business rules, and load it into appropriate database tables. Additionally, this role creates canned parameterized reports based on the EDW to meet business reporting requirements and ensures all development conforms to security and privacy guidelines.

 

What you’ll get to do:

  • Responsible for the development of the Enterprise Analytics reporting environment, taking business reporting requirements and working with the data architect, platform engineering, DBA, and data governance teams to deliver the analytical layer of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to support reporting and data self-service needs.
  • Working with business users and subject matter experts to conduct needs analysis, gathering, validating, and refining business requirements.
  • Performing data validation and testing with end users and subject matter experts. Documents requirements and business rules into appropriate specifications for new reports and/or system enhancements utilizing process and data modeling techniques.
  • Responsible for the delivery of project objectives and the seamless delivery of same to business clients; monitors new deployments and services; acts as the primary point of contact throughout the development delivery and follow up of project initiatives.
  • Ensure seamless delivery of service to clients, monitor new deployments and services, escalate issues as appropriate

 

Who are we looking for?

  • 5+ years of experience working in a directly comparable role responsible for data warehouse development. Significant experience with MS SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS. 
  • Bachelor's Degree or a diploma requiring 3 - 4 years of full-time study.
  • Experience designing a new data warehouse or a new subject area
  • Understanding of star schemas and the associated Kimball methodology
  • Proven experience with business requirements gathering, process and data modeling
  • Strong SQL programming skills
  • Strong relational and multi-dimensional data modeling experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with cloud technologies (Azure, AWS) would be preferred
  • Experience with MDX, DAX would be an asset
  • Experience in full lifecycle data warehouse development
  • Financial industry experience would be an asset
