What’s the job?

As the Director, Credit Risk Management you will ensure that Coast Capital’s lending policies and activities are conducted in a safe and sound manner, are based on portfolio performance and aligned with credit risk appetite statement, and result in predictable credit risk exposure and effective capital allocation. You will be responsible for assisting the VP of Credit Risk Management with coordinating, and supporting the development, execution, oversight, and administration of the Credit and Counterparty Risk Management Framework (“CCRMF”), which spans all business units and functions and entails a comprehensive process for assessing, identifying, monitoring, and managing all aspects of credit risk across Coast Capital. This role also supports the Commercial and Retail Credit teams by making prudent credit decisions on loan applications and management within delegated lending limits. The Director is a key member of the risk management leadership team and drives a culture and focus on building and maintaining a best-in-class credit and counterparty risk and control environment.

 

What you’ll get to do:

  • Coordinate, create, and/or execute the action and remediation plans as they pertain to  credit risk management from internal sources
  • Work in close coordination with portfolio reporting team to enhance credit and counterparty portfolio measurement, monitoring, and reporting
  • Oversee identification and recommendation of changes to both new and existing credit risk management related frameworks, policies and procedures from the first line of defence
  • Proactively promote a strong credit risk management culture across Coast Capital.
  • Lead the Credit Risk Management teams on the development and execution of their respective risk and control assessments, and maturity plans.
  • Oversee processes that support monitoring of credit and counterparty risk, on a transaction and portfolio basis.
  • Provide oversight on mitigation strategies, and monitor the execution of action and remediation plans to enhance risk management capabilities
  • Develop strong relationships and support with business lines, including discussion and assistance of all credit related risk issues, and loan submission and review, including problems loans, when required.
  • Continually review and identify changes to existing credit risk management related framework and policies based on industry best practices, changes in Coast Capital or regulatory requirements, and make recommendations and/or establish new policies, as required,
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a register of all material processes and controls, including identification of material inherent risks, key controls, and issues with Credit Risk Management function.
  • Continually monitor portfolio credit risks against defined performance tolerances, and first line of defence's response to breaches of tolerances.

 

 

Who are we looking for?

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or a diploma requiring 3 - 4 years of full-time study.
  • Formal training in change management, facilitation, negotiation, communication strongly desired.
  • Expert knowledge of commercial credit analysis, policies, negotiation, security and legal procedures, including an advanced knowledge of regulatory and statutory provisions related to real estate and business lending.
  • Advanced knowledge of the banking system, spreadsheets, word processing and other work related computer systems/applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial statement analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of local and provincial economies and trends in a variety of industries.
  • Advanced understanding of real estate appraisal methods, environmental reports, geotechnical reports and construction lending processes and documentation.
