Job Purpose
The Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Coast Capital Savings’ data architecture to ensure data is secure, scalable, and effectively supports operational and strategic objectives. This role collaborates with IT, Enterprise Analytics teams, business leaders, and external partners to create a cohesive data environment that enhances member services, drives financial insights, and ensures regulatory compliance. The Data Architect plays a key role in shaping the credit union’s data strategy, enabling efficient data management and utilization across all functions.

 

Accountabilities

Conceptual Architecture and Data Architecture Design: 

  • Develop and maintain conceptual architectures for solutions, business lines or domains to explain solutions or terms to stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain enterprise-wide data models, including conceptual and logical designs, to support credit union operations and analytics.
  • Define data structures, schemas, and integration frameworks to ensure consistency and accessibility across systems.
  • Establish standards for data storage, processing, and retrieval aligned with industry best practices.

Data Integration: 

  • Architect and oversee the integration of disparate systems (e.g., core banking platforms, CRM, data warehouses) to create a unified data ecosystem.
  • Support real-time and batch data processing to meet diverse business needs.

Data Governance and Quality: 

  • Support Data Governance Team to define and enforce data governance policies, including data standards, metadata management, and quality controls.
  • Support compliance with financial and privacy regulations, and internal security policies.

Collaboration and Strategy: 

  • Partner with business units, IT teams, and leadership to align data architecture with organizational goals, such as improving member experiences or operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance to data engineers, developers, and analysts in implementing data solutions.
  • Translate business needs into scalable data architectures and communicate designs to non-technical stakeholders.

Technology Selection and Implementation: 

  • Evaluate, select, and architect deployment of data management tools and platforms (e.g., databases, cloud solutions, BI tools) to enhance the credit union’s data infrastructure.
  • Lead initiatives to modernize data systems, such as migrating to cloud-based data lakes or adopting advanced analytics capabilities.
  • Optimize data systems for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

Problem Solving and Optimization: 

  • Identify and resolve data-related challenges, such as bottlenecks, inconsistencies, or security vulnerabilities.
  • Support troubleshooting issues to ensure minimal disruption to critical services like online banking or reporting.

Innovation and Future-Proofing: 

  • Stay abreast of emerging data technologies and trends (e.g., AI, big data, blockchain) to recommend innovative solutions.
  • Develop long-term data strategies that support the credit union’s growth and digital transformation goals.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in data architecture, data modeling, or a related technical role.
  • Experience in financial services or regulated industries is a plus but not required.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise data solutions.
  • Expertise in data modeling tools (e.g., ERwin, Lucidchart) and database systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and data integration tools (e.g., Informatica).
  • Familiarity with data warehousing (e.g., Redshift) and BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Knowledge of programming/scripting (e.g., Python, SQL) and API integration.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills to work across technical and business teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Certifications (optional): TOGAF, CDP (Certified Data Professional), AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or similar.
  • Understanding of financial institution workflows (e.g., banking systems, member data management) is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
