What’s the job?

The Information Security Engineer is responsible for building scalable, secure and robust systems as well as helping the organization to create strategies to protect them. You will help move security left to the beginning of the software development lifecycle by engaging and collaborating with other departments and third-party vendors, while evaluating security in the software development space by recognizing and remediating any security threats well before deployment.

 

What you’ll get to do:

  • Build, deploy, automate and maintain security systems for development, testing, and production environments.
  • Collaborate in the architecture and design of comprehensive security solutions that meet business requirements in support of a given project or capability.
  • Assist in the development, configuration and tuning of security event alerting, analysis, and reporting.
  • Participate in the Change Advisory Board to review the security impact of major or significant changes.
  • Conduct security hardening, security assurance testing and vulnerability assessments on infrastructure, network, and applications.
  • Advance organization security posture by promoting a culture of secure development.
  • Source and implement new security solutions to drive information security maturity.
  • Stay current on emerging threats and issues, trends and technology solutions.
  • Mentor, coach and engage with other team members through various projects and team social activities.
  • Develop knowledge and skills through training and engaging with a variety of security professionals of different backgrounds.

Who are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • One or more security related certifications (i.e., CISSP, CRISC, GSEC, Sec+, OSCP) required or willingness to attain within six months of hiring.
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience in security
  • Experience working with Application Development, DevOps or Engineering teams in a dynamic environment to promote/implement the security program throughout the organization.
  • Experience implementing, configuring and maintaining various security controls across multiple security domains.
  • Experience with compliance audits and penetration testing analysis.
  • Proficient knowledge of frameworks:
  • Such as NIST, ISO 27001/2, PCI-DSS asset
  • INTERAC, FICOM and/or OSFI regulations BC PIPA / PIPEDA an asset.
  • Member of ISC2, ISSA, ISACA or part of the local information security or assurance community would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of programming/scripting and APIs considered an asset.

 

Skills (Technical):

  • Experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Microsoft enterprise level products and Unix/Linux based environments and technologies
  • Experience coordinating and performing vulnerability and risk assessments through the use of automated and manual tools
  • Experience working with a wide range of technologies (i.e., XDR, firewalls, DLP, SIEM, CASB, behavioral analytics, anti-phishing/anti-spoofing) along with a solid grasp of the trends in emerging technologies.
  • Experience automating security configuration, incident investigation/response and threat hunting considered an asset.

 

Skills (Non-Technical):

  • Ability to translate complex technical ideas to those without a technical background.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional service orientation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work on simultaneous business initiatives.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
