What’s the job?

The Internal Audit Manager is responsible for assessing business risk exposures throughout the organization and its subsidiaries, planning and conducting audits to evaluate the risk management and business processes and to determine appropriateness and effectiveness of internal controls. In addition, the Internal Audit Manager works in consultation with various levels of the organization to make recommendations and develop internal policies and systems to achieve corporate objectives.


What you’ll get to do:


  • Partner with Business Unit management to strengthen internal control environment and assist in identifying and assessing risks across the organization to help management meet operational, financial, and compliance objectives.


  • Assist Business Unit management to develop internal policies, procedures and systems that enable corporate objectives to be achieved in an economic and efficient manner within the framework of statutory and regulatory requirements.


  • Collect, analyze, and summarize data and trends utilizing computer assisted audit techniques (CAATs) and audit software tools.


  • Analyze and evaluate the system of internal controls through tests and examinations of accounting records, computer systems and transactions, including audits of new business areas and changing business processes.


  • Identify and assess impact of changing and emerging risks for key business processes.


  • Participate in the development of the annual audit plan.


  • Lead and supervise staff to ensure audit work meets professional standards. Provide coaching, training, and mentorship to staff. Encourage and provide cross-sharing of knowledge throughout the department.


  • Network and gather knowledge to stay abreast of industry issues and understand industry best practices.


  • Continually update job knowledge by monitoring industry publications and best practices and participating in professional organizations.


  • Develop and maintain a working understanding of Information Technology principles, concepts, and controls.


  • Provide support and assistance to the external auditors, including but not limited to the completion of specified internal audits on which the external auditors rely, reviewing audit working papers prepared by management and completing the review and analysis of those working papers to the standards of the external auditors.


  • Provide support and co-ordination for Internal Audit and other departments to assist the regulators in the achievement of their statutory examination requirements.


  • Plan, organize and perform risk-based audits that are designed to add value and help improve CCS operations.


  • Conduct special investigations where fraud or other improprieties are suspected.


  • Act as a key member of project teams to develop and implement new systems and processes to help the company achieve its strategies and objectives.



Who are we looking for?


  • 5+ years’ experience in Enterprise Risk and/or Financial Risk management. 
  • Undergraduate university degree in business, commerce or economics.  Professional accounting designation such as CA, CGA, or CMA is required. CIA or CISA designation is an asset.
  • Advanced understanding of internal controls
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices, GAAP and GAAS
  • Proficient in applying auditing and analytical techniques
  • Proficient in personal computer skills, including MS Office and ACL
  • Working knowledge of information technology issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to interact effectively and comfortably with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to present information in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to act and problem-solve creatively by searching out new ideas, means and processes
  • Ability to develop and maintain a high degree of credibility within the organization and with external auditors and regulators
  • Ability to effectively motivate and supervise employees
