Job Purpose

 

The Senior Data Engineer designs, builds, and operates our cloud-first Enterprise Analytics platform on AWS. You will partner with our Data Architect, Platform Engineering, DBAs, and Data Governance teams to ingest data from core banking and enterprise sources, transform it using repeatable, metadata‑driven patterns, and deliver curated data models that power self‑serve analytics, regulatory reporting, and enterprise decisioning. This role leads by example—establishing development standards, CI/CD practices, and data quality/governance controls across the engineering team—while ensuring all solutions meet CCS security, privacy, and regulatory expectations. 

 

Accountabilities

 

Data Platform & Pipelines 

  • Design and deliver reliable, scalable ingestion and transformation pipelines on AWS using Informatica IDMC (e.g., Cloud Data Integration, Mass Ingestion, Cloud Data Quality, Cloud Data Governance & Catalog). 

  • Implement domain‑oriented, reusable data services and models optimized for analytics, regulatory reporting, and operational intelligence. 

  • Engineer pipeline observability and automate testing within CI/CD. 

 

Modeling & Analytics Enablement 

  • Translate business and regulatory requirements into robust data models and marts. 

  • Apply best‑practice dimensional modeling (Kimball) and pragmatic lakehouse design. 

 

Governance, Quality & Security 

  • Operationalize data governance policies with Informatica data governance and quality capabilities. 

  • Embed privacy and security by design across pipelines. 

 

Regulatory & Risk Alignment 

  • Build data capabilities that support OSFI/FINTRAC/CDIC‑driven initiatives. 

  • Partner with Risk, Finance, Compliance, and Internal Audit to ensure traceable data lineage and control evidence. 

 

Ways of Working & Leadership 

  • Set engineering standards and mentor engineers on cloud data engineering best practices. 

  • Contribute to backlogs, estimations, and delivery plans. 

 

Skills & Qualifications

 

Minimum Job-Related Experience 

  • 10+ years in data engineering with significant ownership of data warehouse/data platform builds and 3+ years on cloud (AWS preferred). 

  • Strong SQL and performance tuning. 

  • Expert in star schema/Kimball modeling. 

  • Proven track record building production pipelines (Preferably on AWS leveraging core data services including Redshift). 

  • Experience with event/stream ingestion, CDC patterns 

  • Experience operationalizing data quality, lineage, metadata management, and access controls. 

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills. 

 

Nice-to-have 

  • Hands‑on expertise with Informatica IDMC and Informatica Cloud Data Quality & Governance. 

  • CI/CD for data and Infrastructure as Code. 

  • Experience building near‑real‑time analytics. 

  • Exposure to MDM, reference data management, and consent/privacy tooling. 

  • Background with the Microsoft BI stack to support legacy migrations. 

  • Demonstrated delivery in regulated financial services with familiarity across OSFI/FINTRAC/CDIC reporting. 

  • Familiarity with PCI DSS, PIPEDA/BC PIPA, data retention, and defensible deletion.

  • Cloud: AWS (S3, Glue, Lambda, IAM; Lake Formation/Athena; Redshift) 

  • Integration & Quality: Informatica IDMC (Cloud Data Integration, Mass Ingestion, Cloud Data Quality), Informatica Cloud Data Governance & Catalog 

  • DevOps & Observability: Git‑based workflows, CI/CD for data, logging/metrics/alerting, data tests, lineage
