What’s the job?

 

Reporting to the Director, Financial Planning and Analysis, the Senior FP & A Analyst supports the financial planning and analysis activities of business partners and senior management to allow for better decision making. This will involve: development, composition, analysis of in-depth financial planning models; partnering with business units to provide financial strategic and operational support and guidance; development of an understanding of the different functions, business drivers and the operating environment; driving process improvements in regards to financial planning and analysis, including promoting the use of collaborative enterprise budgeting/forecasting software. This position will also significantly support annual and quarterly planning cycles by leading business partner discussions on forecasted performance, aggregating data and preparing/evaluating varying scenarios. Additionally, the Manager will coordinate enterprise wide profitability forecasts. 

 

What you’ll get to do:

 

  • Utilize enterprise knowledge of products, systems, regulatory capital, liquidity and other key metrics to assess and assist business partners in development and execution of their business plans. 
  • Maintain knowledge of financial services, credit unions and/or banking. Provide insight into drivers of financial performance to better understand the operations of the business
  • The incumbent will use their financial expertise and business acumen to drive discussions with the business units and respectfully challenge assumptions and plans to ensure overall reasonableness
  • Build partnerships with other business units while building credibility for the Finance function; provides timely recommendations/solutions; liaises with business partners, provides advisory services for annual budget planning and business case preparation.
  • Prepare and present modeling information to various stakeholders including, management, executives, business units, Board members and auditors. Collaborate with business partners to ensure analysis is relevant, actionable and measurable
  • Utilizes financial analysis expertise to help prepare insightful and professional presentations on the organization's performance to various stakeholders, including external credit agencies, investors, etc.
  • Research and develop complex driver based planning and stress testing models to assist enterprise and business partners with better decision making.
  • Collaborate with key departments (i.e. EA, Treasury, Accounting etc.) to enhance and develop financial planning and regulatory/business stress testing models
  • Promote the use of planning software to increase efficiencies in the planning process throughout the enterprise
  • Proactively assist annual operating plan discussions and monthly forecast discussions with business partners to assess and forecast short-to-medium term business and financial plans.
  • Contributes to the success of the organization by understand the financial and overall business context of various strategic and operational programs, ensuring financial planning guidance and policy development are aligned with and/or keep pace with the organization’s needs.
  • Prepares and analyzes business cases and business case reviews to support business partners.
  • Participate in the design, development and implementation of new and ad hoc project planning models as required by senior management and business partners.
  • Collaborate with EPMO and business units to conduct financial modeling for projects requiring a business case. Ensure inputs/outputs of financial model are relevant, actionable and measureable post-project completion.
  • Fosters an active and ongoing dialog with various stakeholders to identify and reinforce the business drivers.

 

What we're looking for

 

  • Minimum 4 – 6 Years of Job-Related Experience
  • Progressive experience in a finance capacity. Financial institution experience is an asset. 
  • Bachelor's Degree or a diploma requiring 3 - 4 years of full-time study. A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field along with a professional accounting designation or MBA 
  • Strong working knowledge of related computer technology. 
  • Advanced proficiency in spreadsheet (MS Excel) and presentation (MS PowerPoint) applications. 
  • Moderate financial modeling experience 
  • Working experience with financial planning applications 
  • Effectively communicates in formal presentations, one on one, small or large groups, with peers, and members. Listens to ensure understanding and build rapport; proven ability to present information in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Shows innovation by brainstorming ideas on new means and methods of doing things. 
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills (short term and long term views). 
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision. 
  • Professional and is able to work well with other operating units. 
  • Builds constructive relationships; builds appropriate rapport and relates well to all kinds of people. Process of establishing a mutually beneficial relationship with other business people and potential members.

  • Experience using formal or informal consulting methodologies, skills, and behaviours to support various stakeholders.
