What’s the job?
The Senior Manager, Risk and Controls is mandated to identify and oversee risks and controls across Retail, Small Business and Commercial and Wealth (CRW) activities, supporting a strong internal control environment. The incumbent oversees the Monitoring and Testing function within the Business Management Office and builds and coordinates testing and assurance activities within the 1B function.
What you’ll get to do:
- Builds and executes the control monitoring and testing activities within the Business Managment Office on behalf of the enterprise.
- Leads a cross-functional team within the business (Directors/Sr. Management), Risk Enablement, Audit and other subject matter experts to support the front line to develop action plans and continuously improve on results
- Oversees the management and reporting of Financial Covenant testing for Commercial Real Estate
- Manages the timely implementation of management action plans from Management Self-Identified Issues, second or third line reviews.
- Oversees the execution of risk assessments for Commercial, Retail and Wealth's significant activities, including coordination with the line of business management and delivery to GRM.
- Collaborates with staff to identify, assess, measure, manage and monitor risk arising from the line of business’ operating activities, including new or material changes to products, activities, processes and/or systems.
- Together, with the Senior Manager, Policy and Compliance leads strategies to identify and manage risk by overseeing the execution of Risks and Controls Self Assessments (RCSA),Inherent Risk Assessments (IRAs) and managing the process of Internal Audit, OSFI & other regulatory engagements and findings, ensuring recommendations are addressed in a timely manner.
- Co-leads the Annual Control Certification process over Commercial, Retail and Wealth’s significant activities, ensuring that risk and control assessments are completed accurately for each line of business’ significant activities.
- Coordinates all second and third line control testing activity engagements including Regulatory Compliance testing, Internal Controls over Financial Reporting and Internal Audit testing, to ensure timing of activities are not in conflict and that they are communicated to management using a centralized process.
Who are we looking for?
- This individual is expected to be a subject matter expert in areas of Commercial and Retail with respect to risk and audit practices and have experience reviewing, interpreting and solutioning around legal, risk and regulatory requirements. Experience in a audit, legal or risk function is a requirement.
- Advanced Understanding of control testing techniques, including sample sizing, risk-based testing, and identification of key controls.
- Advanced Knowledge of OSFI regulations with respect to sound risk management practices over FRFIs.
- Advanced Advanced experience and effectiveness in both oral and written communication including face-to-face oral presentations to groups, focused and concise written and verbal summaries, effective questioning and listening
- Understanding of business and economics including current and future strategies, practices, trends, economics, and technology; understands the competitive environment and how strategies and tactics work in the marketplace
- Demonstrated ability to positively and productively engage and deal effectively with colleagues at all levels; builds constructive, mutually beneficial relationships, appropriate rapport and relates well to others
- Strong desire to continuously improve processes, programs, work-flows, and performance, aiming for optimal efficiency and to help others improve
