What’s the job?
The Senior Manager, Commercial Credit Risk ensures our Commercial Team’s lending and credit decisions are safe and sound by making prudent credit decisions in compliance with Coast’s Risk Appetite Statement, Credit and Counterparty Risk Management Framework, Commercial Lending Policies and Commercial Lending Guidelines within his/her delegated limits. You will also help with the implementation of Group Risk Management strategies.
What you’ll get to do:
- Collaborate with other members of the Commercial Credit and Commercial Services teams.
- Provide input to loan structure prior to Letters of Interest being issued for larger loans and perform a complete review of loan applications and selected due diligence material (including reviews, renewals and extensions) submitted by Lenders.
- Responsible for maintaining a strategic view of the loan portfolio, ensuring that the overall risk is diversified and within Coast Capital Savings risk tolerance levels.
- Working with other team members, you will ensure loan documentation processes are up-to-date.
- Liaise with lenders throughout the underwriting and annual review processes to ensure a common understanding of the member and the particular financing.
- Independently perform a full review of Loan Transaction Summary to determine feasibility and compliance with risk appetite.
- Approve risk rating and pricing, as well as any changes to original terms and conditions
- Review files to maximize portfolio profitability while mitigating all possible risks.
- Continually seek awareness of industry trends.
Who are we looking for?
- A Bachelor’s or MBA degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or relevant discipline along with an appropriate designation
- 10 years’ experience in Commercial Lending and/or Commercial Credit.
- Broad experience in lending to operating companies and real estate entities (construction and term mortgages) and current knowledge of market underwriting practices.
- Working knowledge in relation to Personal Property Security Act, Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act, Bank Act, relevant aspects of the Criminal Code, Real Estate Law, Financial Institutions Act and the Credit Union Act.
- Advanced knowledge of commercial credit analysis, policies, negotiation, security and legal procedures including an advanced knowledge of regulatory and statutory provisions related to real estate lending
- Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles / International Financial Reporting Standards
- Advanced understanding of real estate appraisal methods, environmental reports, geotechnical reports and construction lending processes and documentation.
- Excellent communication skills required, both written and oral, for effective and professional internal and external communication.
