What’s the job?

The Senior Manager, Stakeholder Relations leads, develops and implements Coast Capital Savings’ public affairs strategy to enhance Coast Capital Savings’ public profile, brand and reputation. This includes responsibility for building relationships with government officials, regulatory agencies, business associations, media, community influencers and opinion leaders, for the purposes of supporting Coast Capital’s strategic priorities, including national expansion and membership growth. The Senior Manager does this by initiating positive media coverage and public discussion of corporate initiatives and priorities; promoting Coast Capital’s leadership in member-empowerment, innovation and community investment; and by building and leveraging external relationships with public opinion influencers, such as chamber of commerce and community leaders, to act as validators on our behalf



What you’ll get to do:

  • Responsible for the development of Coast Capital’s stakeholder relations strategy to advance our reputation and business interests with government, media and community influencers.
  • Serves as Coast Capital’s expert on public affairs, external communications and issues management, including developing strategic relationships with senior media representatives.
  • Identifies and develops relationships with public stakeholder groups, business and community organizations of strategic value in supporting Coast Capital’s priorities, including national expansion, member growth and business development.
  • Collaborates within the credit union sector in helping to advance shared public policy objectives.
  • Builds and executes advocacy plans on specific public policy objectives.
  • Monitors, assesses, and provides insight on developing public policy issues.
  • Facilitates and coordinates Coast Capital’s responses to legislative and regulatory review processes from all levels of government, in collaboration with other credit unions as appropriate.
  • Advises Executive and management on strategic communication approaches, priorities, and resources required to enhance external communication responsiveness and effectiveness.
  • Directs the development of strategies and activities to generate favourable news coverage and dissemination of information to enhance Coast Capital Savings’ reputation in the community and industry, working closely with the Manager, Media Relations and the broader Marketing team.
  • Serves as an influential advisor and strategist for complex communication assignments.
  • Prepares and presents Government Relations report to the Board’s Governance Committee.



Who are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's Degree or a diploma requiring 3 - 4 years of full-time study with specific Post-secondary training in communications or public relations and a strong understanding of government and media.
  • Superior communication, writing and presentation skills.
  • Some knowledge of the financial services industry.
  • A savvy member of a large, complex organization – skilled in working in a matrix environment, collaborative in building relationships, and smart in knowing how to prioritize competing interests and requests.
  • A self-starter who takes initiative to creatively identify and execute public affairs opportunities, responds quickly to issues, and recommends effective messages.
  • A supportive “team player” who views their role as helping and enabling their colleagues’ success, as much as securing support for their own.
  • Creative, innovative and strategic thinker, with strong analytical skills, sound judgment and excellent problem solving and decision-making ability
  • Communication: demonstrated experience and effectiveness in both oral and written communication including face-to-face oral presentations to groups, focused and concise written and verbal summaries, effective questioning and listening skills.
  • Dealing with Ambiguity: Can effectively cope with change and “shift gears” comfortably; can decide and act without having the full picture, and isn’t upset when things are “up in the air”; comfortably handles risk and uncertainty.
  • Strategic Thinking: demonstrated enterprise perspective and experience ensuring practices, divisional strategies and tactics align with organizational culture, plans and priorities; maintains a holistic and informed perspective.
