The Director, Cards Regulatory & Compliance is a forward-thinking banking leader, responsible for designing and delivering a leading Compliance by Design solution which enhances member experience across a suite of credit cards products while ensuring the organization meets and, exceeds our regulatory and consumer protection requirements . A key member of the Cards leadership team, this role holds responsibility for informing and setting the strategic direction of the business, ongoing P&L management, and developing and executing against an innovation roadmap. This role will also play a lead role in defining and cultivating a driven, collaborative, Member-focused culture. We are looking for a dynamic, committed and innovative payments leader with acute intellectual curiosity and a desire to deliver value and growth. The Director, Cards Regulatory & Compliance will draw from a foundational retail banking understanding of legal, regulatory and consumer behaviour trends to lead a team that designs, develops, and launches new solutions in support of payment products and services that deliver seamless digital-first experiences for our Members and new profitable and sustainable growth for the business. What you’ll get to do:

  • Unearth consumer insights that inform enhancement for the Cards compliance framework. Maintain market intelligence and develop strategies to take advantage of emerging trends and technologies
  • Forge a culture that is admired externally and attracts top talent
  • Build and mentor a team of high-performing product & payment professionals
  • Partner and grow relationships across the organization including the executive team, internal and external stakeholders, across marketing, IT, finance and channels
  • Working across the Cards leadership team and with other relevant functional leads to develop and assess the line of business’ strategic priorities and build out dynamic and agile compliance solutions
  • Ownership for all Member communications including the primary Cards terms and conditions, and all ongoing member advice regarding changes
  • Leadership in meeting Card specific Market conduct obligations including the set-up and delivery of the required infrastructure and ongoing controls
  • Effectively develop, design, build, and execute compliance strategies that enable balance sheet and income statement efficiency
  • Identify trends and monitor the competitive landscape to determine impacts to the organization’s product roadmap and uncover opportunities for innovation, growth and risk mitigation
  • Primary leader working with distributed risk partners as face to regulatory bodies as required
  • Adapt to rapidly changing regulatory environment and stay up-to-date with new Bank Act requirements, including the Financial Consumer Protection Framework
  • Design and manage compliance and agile disclosure solutions for a loyalty platform that delivers relevant, contextual, and engaging experiences for Members
  • Inform and navigate third party service level agreements and partnership deals to achieve win-win outcomes while ensuring compliance requirements are being achieved
  • Drive the payments digital agenda working in close collaboration with other Cards leaders and functional groups
  • Compliance by design will enable the Cards Issuing long-term strategy. The ability to support the start-up Cards organization via creative and informed Compliance solutions is a critical role within the business

 

 

Who are we looking for?

  • 5+ years’ experience gaining a comprehensive understanding of the current and evolving banking and  payments compliance ecosystem and consumer protection framework
  • 5+ years’ experience building strategy, designing customer experience and driving transformational change with a love of problem solving
  • 5+ years’ experience gaining strong business acumen with a depth of understanding in the financial metrics and legal matters that drive performance
  • 5 years’ experience engaging and negotiating with third-party partners. 
  • Undergraduate university degree in business, commerce or economics, an MBA or other post-graduate degree, or equivalent industry related experience preferred
  • Strong abilities in financial and market analysis and insights
  • Strong Project Management skills
  • Human centered design and agile development experience an asset
  • Strong collaborator who is not afraid to speak up
  • Drives innovation and positive change; never satisfied with the status quo
  • Exceptional communications skills – equally comfortable with senior executives and frontline employees
  • A strong leader known for motivating and developing people
  • Digital-first mindset
